ROLY-POLY
Aluminium and plastic yoyos, designed in Smythesdale, Australia.
No. 1 · Wide organicComing DecemberSpeccy
A wide organic yoyo, turned from 7075 aluminium. The catch zone curves out of the gap to where the rim laps over it, and the rim swells out round and rolls onto the face. It spins for a long, quiet time, and three little plates stack up in the middle of each cup, like a slater's back.
⌀ 56.4 · 43.2 · 66.0 g · 3 colourways · A$129 See the Speccy
No. 2 · Undersized, flat-walledComing soonStubby
Squat and square-shouldered, like a stubby in its holder: 50.5 mm across, 40 wide and 62 grams. Flat walls run out from the gap to a tall rim that laps over them low down, so the weight sits right out at the edge and it sleeps like a full-size yoyo.
⌀ 50.5 · 40.0 · 62.0 g · 3 colourways · A$119 See the Stubby
No. 3 · Small V-shapeComing soonServo
Narrow, light and quick: 52.5 mm across, 39 wide and 58 grams. A straight V runs out of the gap to where the rim laps over it, halfway out, and the rim rounds over onto a narrow face.
⌀ 52.5 · 39.0 · 58.0 g · 3 colourways · A$109 See the Servo
No. 4 · Mid-size H-shapeComing soonArvo
A mid-size H-shape: 54.5 mm across, 44 wide and 64 grams. The walls run out from the gap nearly flat to where the rim laps over them, low down, and the rims stand up tall and square-shouldered.
⌀ 54.5 · 44.0 · 64.0 g · 3 colourways · A$119 See the Arvo
No. 5 · Oversized organicComing soonBoomer
An oversized yoyo: 60.5 mm across, 46 wide and 68 grams. The catch zone swells out of the gap and flattens as it goes, to where a fat, round rim laps over it.
⌀ 60.5 · 46.0 · 67.9 g · 3 colourways · A$139 See the Boomer
No. 6 · MiniComing soonJoey
A mini: 45.5 mm across, 36.5 wide and 54 grams, the family's shape drawn small. A round little catch zone runs out to where the rim laps over it, and it still sleeps long enough to learn on.
⌀ 45.5 · 36.5 · 54.0 g · 3 colourways · A$99 See the Joey
No. 7 · Competition VComing soonHoon
A wide V for competition: 57.5 mm across, 45.5 wide and 64 grams. A long, shallow V runs right out to where the rim laps over it, and the rim stands tall and steep, so nearly all the weight spins at the edge.
⌀ 57.5 · 45.5 · 64.0 g · 3 colourways · A$139 See the Hoon
No. 8 · Turned POMComing soonFooty
Turned from POM, the hard, slippery plastic that gears are cut from: 56 mm across, 46 wide and 60 grams. The catch zone swells out round like a ball before the rim laps over it, the rim's edge stays firm, and it shrugs off a drop onto concrete.
⌀ 56.0 · 46.0 · 60.0 g · 1 colourway · A$69 See the Footy
No. 9 · Turned polycarbonateComing soonBudgie
Turned from polycarbonate at full size: 58 mm across, 45.5 wide and 62 grams. The clear ones are vapour polished until you can see the bearing spinning inside; there's black too, and a pair with one of each.

The brief was a full-size organic that felt like the yoyos we kept going back to: 56 mm across, 43 wide, about 66 grams, with nearly all of its spin out in the rims. Speccy is short for spectacular, and it's the one we'd hand you first.

Undersized yoyos live in pockets and come out on walks and in queues. The trick is keeping enough weight in a smaller rim that it still spins long. It's named for the stubby, the short beer bottle that fits in one hand. This one fits in a pocket.

A servo is where you stop for petrol: in and out, no hanging about. This one is for tricks that change direction a lot, where a light yoyo keeps up and a heavy one argues.
Arvo

An arvo is the afternoon, when the work's done and there's still light to throw in. Flat walls and tall rims keep an H-shape steady on its side, which suits slow, sideways tricks, and it still sleeps long for its size.
Boomer

A boomer is a big male kangaroo, and anything else that's big. Oversized yoyos are steady and slow to wind down, which suits long combos and learning new tricks. A rim this fat holds a lot of metal, so the walls are thin to keep it at 68 grams.
Joey
A mini: 45.5 mm across, 36.5 wide and 54 grams, the family's shape drawn small. A round little catch zone runs out to where the rim laps over it, and it still sleeps long enough to learn on.

A joey is a baby kangaroo, the one in the pouch. This is the Roly Poly for small hands and small pockets, and for anyone who likes a little yoyo that still spins like a big one.
Hoon
A wide V for competition: 57.5 mm across, 45.5 wide and 64 grams. A long, shallow V runs right out to where the rim laps over it, and the rim stands tall and steep, so nearly all the weight spins at the edge.

A hoon drives too fast and shows off doing it. This one is for fast, technical tricks: the wide catch zone takes the string wherever it lands, and with 92% of its spin in the outer edge it holds its speed through the whole combo.
Footy
Turned from POM, the hard, slippery plastic that gears are cut from: 56 mm across, 46 wide and 60 grams. The catch zone swells out round like a ball before the rim laps over it, the rim's edge stays firm, and it shrugs off a drop onto concrete.

Footy is the game, and the ball. POM is half as dense as aluminium, so the body is deeper and the cup shallower to get to 60 grams, and it plays softer and quieter than metal. It comes in one colour, black.

A budgie is a budgerigar, the little green parrot of the inland, and breeders have turned it just about every other colour. Polycarbonate is tough enough to take a drop onto concrete, and light, so the body is deep and the cup small to get to 62 grams.
